In my recent works, I delve into the intriguing concept of personal identity, particularly its potential loss. Each day, we awaken as ourselves, but how deeply do we truly identify with our physical form and the world around us? Could it be that our bodies are merely vessels, akin to someone who drives a Honda and believes they are a Honda?
Losing one's identity may seem like losing everything, yet it can paradoxically bring a sense of liberation. There's a certain beauty in relinquishing the constant need to insert ourselves into every situation, allowing us to observe without the weight of personal bias.
Our society often fixates on individual identities and trivial differences, overshadowing the vast commonalities we share. Perhaps the tension among people stems from this relentless emphasis on our disparities, blinding us to our inherent similarities.
In this series, the faces depicted are deliberately distorted, capturing the moment when we confront the realization that we extend beyond our physical selves. This disorienting experience feels as if our very faces are being forcibly separated from us.
Can true freedom ever be attained while we cling to our masks? The Death Mask symbolizes a tribute to our identity while simultaneously bidding it farewell. It commemorates the rare acknowledgment that we transcend mere physicality, serving as a memorial to the demise of our singular identities.
